i hate it when this happens

i don't know when it happened, exactly, but a few days ago, i felt like i was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection, with people crossing, walking in all directions, and i was just standing there, looking at them.

and in the chaos, i started noticing where these people were going. some were hurrying off to work, some to school, some were walking in a relaxed pace, just taking a leisurely stroll. others were rushing to make it to the bus, hurrying home.

then it hit me. i'm going nowhere. maybe it's not entirely true, but that's how i feel at the moment. i keep telling people, when we talk about work, that i enjoy my work just fine. it's stress-free, it gives me time to travel, and it even helps get the creative juices flowing. but in the grander scheme of things, i just feel like i'm not really doing anything of worth. should the earth be purged of people who don't really contribute much to the world, i'd be one of the first to go.

and that makes me sad. i don't know when and why i started thinking that living an okay life is acceptable enough. and now that i had that realization, i'm starting to panic, starting to think of ways on how i can claw my way back up to "worthiness."

don't get me wrong. i know i have no reason to complain. my life's great as it is. my family's great, i'm surrounded by friends who are real people, my work pays well enough for me to enjoy life, i get to travel, i get to have fun and do the things i want. i've done things that some people haven't, or can't.

but i still want more. is it wrong to want to be more? as much as i appreciate the things i have going for me, i don't think i should just sit idly by and watch the rest of the world move on. so now, a plan is in the works, and i'm hoping that it pushes through.

took me a few weeks to catch up on the guimaras oil spill tragedy. quite sad to see photos of the coastline, all murky, knowing it's killed a lot of marine life and affected the livelihood of a lot of families, not to mention the tourism industry in that area.

i got a message in my inbox today to sign this petition, calling for a boycott of petron products until the oil company finally did something about the spill.

in my readings, i read that petron is not not doing anything, it's just not taking action as quickly as it should. in cases like this, you're running against time. you caused the biggest oil spill in the history of the country, possibly damaging the area permanently, and you take your sweet time cleaning up your mess?! camaaan. surely you can do better than that. same goes for sunshine maritime development corp., the shipper of solar I. reading this article might be helpful.

what's really sad is that there are plenty of marine reserves and sanctuaries that have been greatly affected, and there is no assurance that these can be salvaged. aside from that, people living near the affected coastline are exposed to various health hazards.
